A new site is a draft that only your organization can see. Publishing makes it reachable at its address. It is always a person’s decision: a site Buildly writes never publishes itself.
Before you publish
On your site’s overview, choose View your website to open the draft in a new tab, and read it through - see Reviewing a draft before you publish.
Publishing
- Open your site’s overview.
- Press Publish.
The overview now shows the site as Published, with its Live address. Only Owners and Admins can publish; Editors see Publish (Admins only). While a build is running the button is not shown. Publishing uses no sparks.
After your site is live
Changes you save in the editor appear to visitors straight away, so check a page after you change it. Pressing Publish again records a new version in your history.
The Versions screen
Choose Versions from the overview or your site’s menu to see the Publish history: each time the site was published, marked Live for the current one and Replaced for earlier ones. It is a record of when you published, not a copy of the words, so keep your own note of wording you might want back.
If the preview will not open
- That page is not in your preview yet - your site has no page at that address, or it is still being written. Choose Open the preview to try again.
- Your preview could not be drawn - nothing you wrote is lost, and the problem is recorded automatically. Choose Try the preview again. If it keeps happening, ask our team and quote the reference shown on the page.
Taking a site down
There is no button to take a published site back to a draft. To remove a site from the web, delete it - see Deleting a site. If a site shows as taken offline by our staff, it cannot be published again from your dashboard; contact support.
