If your business had a website before Buildly, people and search engines still have links to its old pages. A redirect sends anyone who follows one of those links to the right page on your new site, instead of to a page that does not exist.
Adding a redirect
- Open your site and choose Redirects, then Add a redirect.
- In Old address, enter the old page’s path, such as
/our-services.html. - In Send them to, enter the page on this site it should go to. Use
/for the home page. - Answer Has it moved for good? - Yes, permanently for a page that has moved for good, or No, just for now.
- Choose Add redirect.
Choose permanently unless you plan to bring the old page back. A permanent redirect tells search engines to move the old page’s standing in results to the new one.
The rules a redirect follows
- It only applies where no page exists at the old address
- It must send people to a page on the same site
- It cannot send people round in a loop
Changing or removing one
Choose a redirect to change where it sends people. To remove one, choose Delete redirect. Export CSV saves the full list as a spreadsheet file.
